The purpose of the DIN system is to ensure that the ski binding releases the boot when the skier falls or experiences a sudden impact, to reduce the risk of injury to the skier's knees and other joints. If the DIN setting is too low, the binding may release too easily, which can result in inadvertent releases and increased risk of injury. If the DIN setting is too high, the binding may not release when it should, which can also increase the risk of injury. Most ski binding models are available in several DIN ranges. For example, the Salomon Stance 14 comes with a DIN range of 5-14, while the Salomon Stance 16 comes with a DIN range of 7-16. When choosing snow ski bindings, consider what your recommended DIN setting is and choose a suitable binding to match.
